What this Episode is About
The transcript below reflects the heart of this episode.
In this episode, I sit with the moment that changed everything for me — the moment I stopped picturing God as Someone watching from far away, and started seeing Him as the One who had stepped inside everything I was afraid of.
When I was younger, I pictured God somewhere high above me. Powerful. Almighty. But distant. And when I was hurting — really hurting — that picture didn’t help me. How could Someone so far away understand the kind of fear that wakes you up at 2am? How could He care about one ordinary woman in the middle of one ordinary mess?
That tension — needing comfort and feeling like the only God you knew was watching from too far away to reach you — is where so many of us quietly live. We have inherited a faraway God, and then we wonder why fear has so much room to grow in the silence.
But John 1:14 says something different. The Word became flesh. Not above us. Among us. Jesus did not watch from the distance of heaven. He moved into the neighborhood of being human. He had a body that got tired, friends who let Him down, tears at a funeral, fear in a garden. He came close on purpose.
The miracle of incarnation is not just theology. It is personal. It means when fear says, “You are alone in this,” God says, “I became one of you so you would never have to be.” It means in your worst moments — the diagnosis, the doubt, the quiet tears no one else hears — you are not navigating in front of a stranger. You are in the presence of Someone who knows.
Fear is a liar. And the God who became you is closer than your next breath.
In this episode:
- Why the image of a distant God falls apart when you’re hurting

- Death as a doorway, not an ending
- A closing prayer for every woman carrying anxiety and fear right now
“He became you so you would never again feel unknown.”
— Star, Episode 4
00:00Today, we're talking about something that changed everything — the moment that God stopped being an idea above us, up there in heaven, almighty and sometimes angry, and a lot of people think judgy. I want to talk about how that changed the moment God sent His Son to be among us, the moment that heaven put on skin.
01:00When I was younger, I used to picture God somewhere high above, looking down. I knew He was powerful, but He also felt very unreachable. And when I was hurting, that image that I grew up with just didn't help. Maybe you've been there too. Because how can someone so far away, so magnificent, the creator of Earth, care about me and understand me?
But the wonderful thing is that He became us. When Jesus stepped into humanity, He didn't just watch from far away. He became human. He came to experience what we experience. He felt hungry and exhausted and angry and sad, and He laughed, He was also betrayed, and He ultimately died.
02:00The entire human experience, He felt that. He came to show us that God isn't detached from our pain — that He's right here. He's in it. He understands. He gets us.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Philippians 2:8 says, “He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross.” Hebrews 2:14: “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil.”
03:00Jesus didn't just look down on humanity from a distance — he stepped inside it. He felt all of those big feelings and little feelings that we as humans feel, in the good times, in the sad times, in the bad times.
He faced everything that we fear most. And what's amazing is he did it so that we knew, so that we felt that God does indeed understand this, that he sees us. Whatever feelings we have, Jesus can say, “Yes, I've been there.”
04:00The most amazing gift is that he came to save us. Came to save us from fear, from shame, from the idea that God was too far away to understand us, that God was this form in the universe that could not feel or understand what we are feeling. When Jesus became human, he took the devil's greatest weapon away.
You've heard it said, “Fear is a liar.” There's a song about that. And if you think about your worst moments and that struggle in your life, those times where you're depressed or sad — all of those feelings usually start from fear.
05:00We are afraid of death. We are afraid of feeling guilty. We're afraid of being misunderstood. We're afraid of not finding answers, not being happy, not finding the right mate, or finding the right mate.
When Jesus became human, he took the devil's greatest weapon away from him, and he broke it. The hold that the devil has on humanity is fear. But Jesus walked into death and turned it into a doorway to eternal life. Think about that. So our worst fear, most people's worst fear, is death.
06:00Because we know that when we pass on, life doesn't end. It's just a new beginning.
When we know Christ, we don't have to live with all of that fear. We understand that fear is a devil's lie and that we don't need to give in to it. If you love Jesus, if you belong to him, if you've been saved, you know that you're free. He became you so that you would never again feel unknown. He became human so you would never again face fear alone.
Because the most amazing thing is that in your worst moments, no matter what is going on in your life, if you love Jesus, you know that he's there with you. You know that you can turn to him, and you don't have to feel that despair.
07:00And when despair does come — and it will — that's the moment to turn back to Him. We don't need to live with constant fear.
The world is enslaved because evil has a hold on humanity. The miracle of incarnation is that God didn't stay distant. He came close. He became one of us, and in dying, he broke the chains of fear forever. So if you love Jesus, if you belong to him, remember this: Fear is a liar, and the devil is the maker of lies. You're free, you're known, and you are understood by the one who became you to save you.
08:00Lord, for every woman listening who's carrying anxiety and fear right now — touch her heart. Help her find Your peace. Remind her that she can turn to You because You are there. You are close by, watching over her, waiting for her. And in the moment that fear takes over, give her comfort. Remind her that fear is a liar. Amen.
